We strongly encourage you to take public transit. - THE MUSIC! T Marie & Bayou Juju play traditional and original Louisiana music. In addition to honoring traditional Cajun, Creole, Zydeco, Swamp Pop, Country, Blues, and New Orleans songs, the band also contributes to the next generation of South Louisiana sound with their own original tunes, performed in both Louisiana French and English. The band started through gatherings at fires, suppers, porches, and levees, and you’ll feel this vibrant community of friendship echo through all of their music. These days you can catch them at dive bars, dancehalls, and festivals, sharing that same good juju and joy. They play regularly in New Orleans, and the band has toured in California, Colorado, NorthCarolina, France, and Spain. Get on your dancing shoes and shrimp boots, and join in on .... Cajun below sea level! Fogo Azul NYC is New York City’s best and most powerful performance group. The New York City-based all-women, trans, and non-binary Brazilian Samba Reggae drum line Fogo Azul (Blue Fire) was born at the intersection of founder and Buffalo, NY native, Stacy Kovacs’ passion for Samba Reggae, her deep respect for its cultural roots as a music of protest and resistance, her belief and activism in support of gender equality and her sense of civic duty in the current environment to publicly awaken and inspire people to resist oppression and exercise their power to uplift society —loudly. Launched in 2016 as an extension of Marcus Santos’s Samba Reggae-based Grooversity education project, Fogo Azul NYC is an age and ethnically diverse community that spans the drummer spectrum from novice to professional. - JOIN THE ARTIST ON THE INTERACTIVE ART WALL! Samantha Dion Baker. Samantha is originally from Philadelphia, where she grew up in a family of artists. Throughout childhood, she would spend afternoons drawing in her grandmother’s sculpture studio, and would watch my mother make intricate illustrations on her drafting table at home. Samantha attended The Cooper Union in New York City, where she studied everything from design to printmaking, having a desire to learn and experiment with as much as possible before settling on a design career. She then spent over twenty years working as a graphic designer in Toronto and New York City, with a strong focus in the art world. In her early forties, she began to draw again, and through a regular sketchbook practice, transitioned from designer to artist. Now a full-time illustrator, artist, and author, Samantha's favorite thing to do is wander the city streets and travel with her family, drawing all of the things she does, eats, and sees in the pages of her sketch journal. She lives and works in Brooklyn with her husband and two sons. - SPECIAL THANKS Live at the Archway is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with City Council. Live at the Archway is curated by Clara Inés Schuhmacher, of Team Dumbo, and Jan Bell, of the Brooklyn Americana Music Festival. - WANT TO SEE MORE SHOWS?
