In partnership with MUBI, Black Film Club Collective invites you to a free advance screening of My Father’s Shadow, the debut feature from Akinola Davies Jr. Winner of the Caméra d’Or Special Mention at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, My Father’s Shadow is a semi-autobiographical story unfolding over the course of a single day in Lagos during the 1993 Nigerian election crisis. The film follows a father—estranged from his two young sons—as they journey across the city, navigating fractured relationships, memory, and mounting political unrest in their attempt to make it home. Following the screening, attendees are invited to stay for a community talkback, facilitated by Black Film Club Collective. This conversation will create space to reflect together on the film’s themes—fatherhood, memory, political inheritance, and diasporic identity through shared dialogue and audience participation.
