The exhibition honors both the memory of Emmett Till and the extraordinary courage of his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, whose decision to insist on an open-casket funeral forced America to confront the brutal reality of racial violence. By showing the world what had been done to her son, Till-Mobley transformed personal tragedy into a catalyst for the civil rights movement.
