The Arizona Winds proudly presents “The Many Moods of Christmas”, a musical journey through the heartwarming traditions and joyful spirit of the season. Set to take place on Sunday, November 30th at the Vista Center for the Arts, 15660 N. Parkview Place, Surprise, this special concert invites the audience to experience the beauty of Christmas through a dynamic selection of Christmas favorites featuring rich harmonies, uplifting themes, and beloved carols. Free Admission! The concert begins with A Festive Christmas, a jubilant opener that sets the tone for an afternoon of warmth and celebration. This leads into Winter Dances, a mesmerizing musical depiction of the season’s graceful snowfall, crisp air, and holiday excitement. The program then moves into a beautifully orchestrated Angels, From the Realms of Glory, reminding us of the miraculous birth of Christ and the heavenly proclamation of peace and joy. The music continues with a lively medley of Christmas favorites entitled Christmas Medley, showcasing the band’s principal trombonist, Jim Lee. A highlight of the first half, Robert Russell Bennett’s Many Moods of Christmas Suite 2, offers a stirring arrangement of classic carols, weaving together festive and solemn tones to reflect the emotional depth of the season. Following a short intermission, the concert resumes with The Bells of Christmas, evoking the joyful chimes that herald Christ’s birth and bring holiday cheer across the world. The merriment continues with Morton Gould’s familiar and playful Jingle Bells, a timeless favorite that captures the carefree spirit of Christmas sleigh rides. Classical grandeur takes center stage with Julie Giroux’s "Nutcracker Fantasia," a stunning reinterpretation of Tchaikovsky’s beloved ballet, transporting audiences to a magical world of sugarplum fairies and enchanted festivities. As the program moves toward its conclusion, the audience is taken on a whimsical musical adventure following Saint Nicholas on his Christmas Eve travels, filling hearts with the wonder and excitement of the holiday season. The afternoon concludes with the band’s traditional Christmas sing-a-long, and a special encore featuring a special guest conductor. This celebration of Christmas promises to uplift and inspire, reminding all of the true meaning of Christmas—hope, joy, and the spirit of giving. This concert is free and open to the public.
