Circulation As Poetic And Political Practice: A Conversation

How does one produce art about and in the midst of humanitarian crises? Join us Saturday, November 1st, at The People’s Forum, as World Poetry and Barricade journal sit down with Greek-language poet Jazra Khaleed and translator Jason Rigas. Khaleed and Rigas will present a bilingual reading of “Revolving Doors,” a multi-part cut-up poem on migration which appears in The Light That Burns Us (World Poetry, 2024) and as a zine produced by Barricade. Following the reading, Khaleed and Rigas will by joined by Elizabeth Benninger and Lauren K. Wolfe of Barricade and poet Tony Iantosca for a discussion about circulation as poetic and political practice—in relation to the intertextual composition of “Revolving Doors” and its engagement with the immigration policies to which its title refers; in relation to the multiple processes of translation into and out of Greek and English which are a condition of the work’s existence; and in relation to its publication by World Poetry Books, Barricade, and Khaleed’s journal Teflon as exemplary of all three platforms’ editorial missions.
