The Periodic Table Of Broadway Musicals

The Drama Book Shop presents, in association with Jay Michaels Global Communications, The Periodic Table of Broadway Musicals A Talkback, signing and live podcast recording. Hosted by Broadway by Ghostlight's Marc Bonanni with special guest 3-time Tony nominee Mary Testa. About the Book Imagine the classic periodic table of elements—but instead of Chromium and Rhodium, it's A Chorus Line and Rent! This delightful and informative gift book, based on the bestselling viral poster series is a stunning showcase of art and content sure to thrill lovers of showtunes and everything Broadway and beyond. For almost 100 years, Broadway musicals have captivated audiences around the globe with unforgettable tunes, larger-than-life performers, and spectacular sets and costumes. Now, acclaimed theater writers Andrew Gerle and Joseph Zellnik have found a fresh new way to showcase the people, traditions, and innovations that have shaped Broadway: a “periodic table” of 118 iconic works that have come to define this beloved art form. Just like elements in the real periodic table, the shows are organized into families such as Leading Ladies, The Groundbreakers, and True Stories. And each show’s entry, headed by an “atomic” symbol and a witty original artwork, includes a cast list, run dates, surprising trivia, and an insightful exploration of the production’s unique place in history. The book includes a full-size pull-out poster. Theater lovers will adore this unique guidebook that boasts a wealth of Broadway knowledge. About the Authors Andrew Gerle is a composer/lyricist, music director, author, and educator. Winner of the Jonathan Larson Award, the Kleban Prize, and a record four Richard Rodgers Awards, he is the composer of shows including Meet John Doe, Prospera, The Tutor, and Whisper Darkly. One of the most respected theater educators in the country, he has served on the faculties of Yale University and the Manhattan School of Music, and is the author of two popular books for musical theater actors: The Enraged Accompanist’s Guide to the Perfect Audition, and Music Essentials for Singers and Actors. Joseph Zellnik is best known as the composer of the off-Broadway hit Yank! which received seven Drama Desk nominations, including Best Score and Best Musical, and Best Musical nominations from the Outer Critics’ Circle and Lucille Lortel Awards. The show has since gone on to productions across the US and around the world, including Rio de Janeiro, where it won the 2017 CENYM award for Best Musical. Joseph’s other books include The Sound of Murder: Musicals Are Murder #1, first in a new Broadway-themed mystery series, and (as co-author) The Vaudeville Murders.
