Pipes: Downtown Voices Featuring Janet Yieh

Janet Yieh, the music director at New York’s Church of the Heavenly Rest, returns to Trinity, where she was assistant organist when the church embarked on its ambitious project to replace all three of its organs. With the power of Downtown Voices, Yieh presents a program of iconic Anglican and American anthems that illustrates the new instrument’s majestic sweep — capable of both soaring transcendence and the quietest sweetness — as an accompaniment to sacred music. Opening with the triumphant strains of I Was Glad, by Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, the evening includes many other favorites, such as William Henry Harris’s Faire is the heaven, Cecilia McDowall’s O sing unto the Lord, and Alice Parker’s Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal. Janet Yieh, organ; Downtown Voices; Edmund Milly, baritone; Stephen Sands, conductor. Registration for this free event is highly recommended as seating is limited. We suggest arriving 45 minutes before start time. Admission is first-come, first-served, with ticket holders receiving priority (although not guaranteed entrance if the venue reaches capacity).
