Space Melt Cinema Presents: Mechanical Violator Hakaider

Space Melt Cinema returns with a FREE screening of the Japanese mecha-action movie Mechanical Violator Haikaider (1995 |Japan | 73 Mins) in collaboration with @doom.bar and @bigbadbloodymama for Bloodthirsty Thursday! There will be trivia sponsored by @artintheagebefore the screening, who will also be providing their Grave Robber whiskey for the drink special. @doublehockeysticks666 will be doing a DJ set immediately afterwards! An adaptation of the Kikaider anime, the titular Hakaider is a literal killing machine who’s lost his memory and has been drafted into service to liberate the people of Jesus Town (yes, Jesus Town) from its evil ruler. Full disclosure: we never heard of the anime when we first discovered this sci-fi action gem on Tubi, but apparently in Japan it’s a huge deal. It doesn’t matter however as far as we can tell, because the movie is action set-piece after set-piece, with inventive costume and set design and INCREDIBLE stop-motion.
