Cancer & Community: The Journey Through ArtPresented by Brooklyn Made Store in partnership with the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of BrooklynOn view: June – July 2025 Closing EventsTuesday, July 15 | 6–8 PM | City PointFriday, July 25 | 6–8 PM | Industry City This summer, Brooklyn Made Store and the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Brooklyn present Cancer & Community: The Journey Through Art—a powerful, two-location exhibition featuring 12 Brooklyn-based artists whose work transforms personal experiences of illness, loss, healing, and resilience into visual art. From photography and sculpture to ceramics and mixed media, each piece invites viewers into a shared space of remembrance and strength. Many works are available for purchase, offering accessible, handmade pieces that honor the stories woven into the fabric of our Brooklyn community. Closing CelebrationsAt each closing reception, guests are invited to experience interactive activities that highlight the power of art to connect and heal:On Tuesday, July 15 at City Point, artist Vicky Xu (Williamsburg) will lead a hands-on letter-writing and craft activity inspired by her colorful zine Recipes for Being, a playful guide to mindfulness and community connection. Guests are encouraged to reflect, write, and create using curated prompts, paper, and stickers—materials will be provided.That evening also features a sweet surprise from artist Kylie Brown (Flatbush), who will share her handmade paint palette sugar cookies, a playful nod to her delicate watercolor tributes to Brooklyn landmarks touched by grief and memory.On Friday, July 25 at Industry City, artist Ellie d’Eustachio (Flatbush) will host a cozy finger crochet activity—inviting guests to learn the basics of this meditative textile art form. All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is needed—just bring your fingers and your curiosity!
