Robert Ojeda, M.A., M.Ed., will be offering a lecture demonstration on the history and influences of music by Mexican American musicians from the 20th Century to the 21st Century. Ojeda will speak about the close association between the Mexico and Mexican American Music recording industry and the two primary music ensembles in the Southwest (Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California etc.). Robert Ojeda, respected musician, educator, and historian, is a 2024 grantee of the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture Individual Artist Grant. Ojeda is dedicated to preserving the history of Mexican American music through performance and community-based education. Ojeda is a recipient of several grants and awards over his career such as, Austin Humanities Grant, Cesar Chavez "Si Se Puede" Award, 2019 Raza Award, Austin Tejano Legends Award, and is an original member of El Teatro Campesino. Ojeda is also a contributing author to "Mexican and Chicano Music: Chicano music: a perspective; Lalo Guerrero: the father of Chicano music", 2nd Ed., published by McGraw-Hill, and author of "La Rondalla Mexicana" published by San Diego state University Aztec Bookstore.
