The Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA) and Therapinay presents Searching for Kapwa Film Screening and Dialogue Date: Saturday, June 21, 2025 Time: 2:00pm - 4:00pm Location: College-Rolando Branch Library Special Guest: Larry D. Lariosa - Filmmaker Kapwa translates to a sense of shared identity, the sense of “I see you-you see me.” Yet many Filipino-Americans often feel misunderstood within their communities and families. Searching for Kapwa: A Story of Identity, History, and Belonging, produced by Alchemy & Twine Productions, is a powerful documentary that follows the filmmaker’s quest to understand his ancestral roots and find his place in the arc of history. Join us for a special screening of the film, followed by a facilitated dialogue led by Filipino therapists, which will bring together diverse Filipino-American perspectives in meaningful conversation. This event offers a welcoming space where participants can share personal stories, listen with empathy, and reflect on their experiences. Through the lens of the film and open-hearted discussion, we aim to illuminate the shared values and diverse viewpoints that shape our communities and bridge generational gaps. Bring your parents, siblings, or chosen family members with you and engage in this shared journey toward a deeper connection, seeing each other more fully.
