Juneteenth is a commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans in the United States. Before Central Park was built, the area from West 82nd to West 89th Street was home to Seneca Village, the largest community of African-American property owners in New York. Learn about the lives of Seneca Village's residents in the 1800s and the community's place in pre-Central Park. More Info below.
