Black Music City June Celebration Event Hosted by: Seraiah Nicole Presented by: WXPN, WRTI, and REC Philly Sponsored by: William Penn Foundation Now in its fifth year, Black Music City continues to celebrate Philadelphia’s legacy of Black music and culture by investing in the future of its creatives. In 2025, the program awarded over $130,000 in grants to 30 visionary Black artists across a range of disciplines—from music and film to visual art, dance, and performance. Enjoy performances from: Karen Smith & Debra Powell-Wright Dwight Dunson  Carla Gamble  Richard Hill Jr.  Rae Diaz  Special “Bop Dance” presentation:  Marck “Maestro Flaco” Best and Duiji Mshindi Join us for an evening of celebration, creativity, and community as we unveil the final works our grantees have developed over the past few months. Hosted by the dynamic Seraiah Nicole, the evening will include a film screening, interactive artist showcase, and awards ceremony honoring this year’s cohort. Whether you're a longtime supporter or new to the Black Music City community, this is your chance to witness the powerful, boundary-pushing projects that honor Philadelphia’s Black music heritage and future. - Getting there & Parking: Main entrance is located at 3025 Walnut St. Philadelphia, PA 19104. We are conveniently located in the University City District of Philadelphia, right off of I-76W (Exit 345) and just a few blocks south of Philadelphia’s 30th Station, which includes services from Amtrak, NJ Transit, and SEPTA. There is plenty of metered parking available within walking distance of the venue on Walnut St, Lower Walnut St, and 31st St. There are also several flat rate public parking lots nearby. For evenings and weekends after 5pm, we recommend FMC Tower. For weekdays, try Penn Park or LAZ Parking. If you’re staying overnight, check out The Sheraton Philadelphia University City, AKA University City, The Study at University City, and Cornerstone B&B.
