📍 Session 3: Negro limbo – US Premiere 🎞️ We’re thrilled to present the U.S. premiere of Negro limbo, a compelling new documentary by Lorenzo Benítez, who will join us for a post-screening conversation! This third session is part of the series Spain in Africa: Round-Trip Imaginaries in Documentary Cinema (1931–2024). Based on over 6 years of investigative research, this film unfolds like a detective thriller, taking us from San Sebastián to Equatorial Guinea in search of Acacio Mañé — a key figure in the National Liberation Movement and member of the Patronato de Indígenas, who was arrested and disappeared in the late 1950s. One of the investigators is the son of the Attorney General who handled Mañé’s case during the Spanish colonial regime, bringing a deeply personal lens to the search.Their journey moves through official archives, private documents, amateur footage, and photo albums from religious missions, piecing together silenced stories and forgotten truths. The film culminates in a return to present-day Guinea, confronting the colonial past and asking urgent questions about memory, justice, and repair. 🗣️ Spanish and Fang with English subtitles More Info below.
