Film Screening: 'hive' (2021)

“HIVE,” a poignant and award-winning debut by Blerta Basholli, is an extraordinary story of social resilience in a post-war country. The movie tells the powerful true story of Fahrije, a woman living in post-war Kosovo who, after the disappearance of her husband during the war, struggles to provide for her family in a patriarchal village still reeling from loss. Defying tradition and societal expectations, she starts a small agricultural business with other women whose husbands are also missing. As the community's hostility grows, Fahrije must navigate prejudice and threats to protect her livelihood and dignity. Set against the backdrop of a society grappling with trauma and gender norms, “HIVE” is a story of quiet resistance, resilience, and the pursuit of independence. The film made history by becoming the first Kosovan entry to win three major awards at the Sundance Film Festival in 2021: the Grand Jury Prize, the Audience Award, and the Directing Award in the World Cinema Dramatic category. It was also Kosovo's official submission for the Best International Feature Film at the 2022 Oscars. Following the screening, there will be an informal discussion where attendees are invited to share reflections and thoughts. Refreshments will be provided. More Info below.
