Common Thread, a film directed by Esteban Alarcón and produced by Povos Gallery, explores the respective and collaborative practices of Leopoldo Goût and Antonio Ruiz Mendoza. Born in Mexico City and now based on NYC, Goût collaborates with Antonio Ruiz Mendoza in Teotitlan Del Valle--the ancestral home of Zapotec weaving just outside of Oaxaca--on large format contemporary tapestries. The first series of tapestries, 4 large works, make their international debut at Povos Gallery for Goût's solo exhibition, Elefante. Elefante opens to the public the day following this screening, on Thursday 3rd of October, at the gallery's West Town location (1541 W Chicago Ave) from 6-9pm.
