Self-Determined: The Secret History of Education Freedom is a pop-up exhibit hosted by Black Minds Matter at the Founder's Hall at Girard College from September 10- September 14th. This five-day pop-up exhibit will showcase the plight of African Americans’ education freedom, beginning in the Antebellum Period and continued through Reconstruction, the Civil Rights Era, and to present day. Our journey will explore how community control solutions have helped to better educational outcomes for students not only across the country but also here in Philly. This exhibit presents a powerful narrative of how Black people then and now strive to build their own schools, empower their community, and ultimately set a high education standard for children. Come experience history and listen to current Black school founders who are making history today. More Info below.
