Bdaas Panel Discussion: Resisting Prison Industrial Warfare

Panel Discussion with Jalil Muntaqim & Stephanie Jeffcoat, hosted by the Black Diaspora & African American Studies Program (UCSD). Jalil Muntaqim joined the Black Panther Party at age 16 and the Black Liberation Army at 18. In 1971, he was convicted in the killing of two New York City Police Officers. He spent nearly 50 years in prison for this crime before being released on parole in 2020. While in prison, Mr. Muntaqim co-founded the Jericho Movement, and initiated the International Jericho March on Washington (1998) and We Charge Genocide: International Tribunal to the United Nations (October 2021). He is the author of We Are Our Own Liberators. As a former political prisoner and prisoner of war he is an internationally recognized leader of the modern abolition movement. Stephanie Jeffcoat is a formerly incarcerated activist working as an innovative public policy organizer. She serves as the founder of Families Inspiring Reentry and Reunification for Everyone (FIR4E), a nonprofit dedicated to offering housing, family reunification, workforce development, and advocacy assistance to previously incarcerated women. She has collaborated with state lawmakers, allied nonprofit organizations, and grassroots activists throughout California, successfully championing legislation meant to reform both the criminal justice and child welfare systems More Info below.
