JOIN US AT THE 7TH ANNUAL AFRICA DAY RECEPTION Welcome back the annual Houston Africa Day! Featuring African cultures, arts, performances, and cuisines, this Houston celebration serves to commemorate Africa Day, which was was first held in 1963 in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, when 32 countries formed the Organization of Africa Unity (OAU). In the more than half a decade since, 21 additional countries have joined the OAU, with South Africa the last country to join in 1994 after Apartheid ended. This event is held annually to strengthen ties between the city of Houston and the local African community by re-connecting to allow a cultural exchange and support global understanding.
