view finder publication launch friday, 05 april 2024 6.00 pm - 8.00 pm free admission, complimentary drinks (21+) 161 glass st. dallas, tx join us over cocktails for a night of celestial celebrations as we launch view finder and enjoy the ”otherworldly and enigmatic” sounds of bluebook’s julie davis. view finder, is a limited-edition artist publication designed by travis lamothe released on the occasion of the exhibition brian fridge: view finder curated by dallas contemporary deputy director lucia simek and researched in collaboration with planetary scientist dr. mary urquhart of university of texas at dallas. view finder on view at dallas contemporary 10 march - 05 may 2024 is inspired by 08 april’s total eclipse. the significant celestial event in which the parts of north america in the path of totality, including dallas, will be shrouded in darkness as the moon entirely obscures the sun. each element of the work contemplates various forms of the lens, each lens serving as a filter through which one experiences and interprets the eclipse. this work was made possible by the simons foundation and is part of its “in the path of totality” initiative. denver singer-songwriter julie davis has made music as bluebook on and off for more than a decade. she creates a sparse, haunting soundscape driven by her vocals, upright bass and looped percussion. lately davis has been busy collaborating with notable colorado musicians, including gregory alan isakov, nathaniel rateliff and joseph pope iii, her husband and one of rateliff's titular night sweats. for one night only she will perform at dallas contemporary.
