Join the Greenbelt Native Plant Center (GNPC) for a hands-on seed cleaning workshop from the Seed Increase Program (SIP)! This program farms seed for use in restoration projects throughout the five boroughs. This workshop will include a tour through GNPC's seed production fields and detailed demonstrations of on-site cleaning equipment. Additional topics of discussion are: seed collection, drying, testing, and storage. Following the tour, we will spend time processing dried harvests which includes: separating seeds from the plants and winnowing the seed from the husk through a variety of techniques using hands and machinery. Depending on the interests of the group, we will discuss techniques for small collection up to farm production. Please reach out ([hidden]) if you would like to bring small lots of seed to clean as time and space allows. Come prepared with long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toes shoes and expect to get dusty and dirty. More Info below.
