The Anti-Swipe: The Party Disrupting Dating App Culture

This is your chance to ditch swipe culture, break free from app burnout and fatigue, and connect with new single people IRL for a night of dancing, interactive live entertainment and intelligent, offbeat, and underground fun at Industry City. We've tightened up operations to make the night even smoother, including an even more diverse group of guests, more paper and pencil stations to stay in touch with connections, more tables, a semi-private lounge to sit and talk, and a new rainbow bracelet for folks who are questioning, queer, or don't identify with "straight/bi/gay". The Anti-Swipe is a hybrid social experiment and party dedicated to creating an organic opportunity for single folks looking to meet that special someone. Guests check their phones at the door and get a color-coded bracelet identifying who they're looking for to spend an analog evening engaged and present to enjoy great music, gogo dancers, dazzling hosts, taking a spin on the wonder wheel, and swapping digits the old-fashioned way. All are welcome. Connections can sit by the fire pit to chat or get cozy on velvet love seats for "seven minutes in heaven" without the pressure of structured speed dating, cruising bars, or "singles mixers" - we know that's corny. Further, dating apps hijack our neurobiology and reward learning, and increase the chance of being ghosted: dating apps can reduce the consideration of other people’s feelings because of the disconnection created by virtual interactions. Over 50% of the NYC population is currently single. Research reveals that—instead of benefiting from more choice options, and coming closer to finding out what the best possible partner is—a digital stream of partner profiles can set in motion an overall feeling of dissatisfaction and pessimism about finding a mate, which leads users to gradually “close off” from mating opportunities. Forget your battery life, recharge your love life! Bring some cash to tip the dancers (there's an ATM nearby on campus) and singles - the currency, not the humans - can now be obtained from the DJ. It's a great night of no-pressure fun. Come and see! FOLLOW US ON IG @the_anti_swipe More Info below.
