April is designated as the Month of the Military Child , underscoring the important role military children play in the armed forces community. Sponsored by the Department of Defense Military Community and Family Policy, the Month of the Military Child is a time to applaud military families and their children for the daily sacrifices and the challenges they overcome. Memorial Park, a municipal park in Houston, Texas, is one of the largest urban parks in the United States. A favorite among Houston’s joggers, Memorial Park also features tennis courts, playing fields, a fitness center, swimming pool and six miles of mountain and recreational bike trails along the bayous. One lap jogging or walking around Memorial Park is 2.88 miles, and there are distance markers located every 1/4 mile, in both directions.
