March Free Sailing Seminar Day-3 Of 3 Hands On Sailing Experts/Beginners 10-5pm

10am - 5pm UPDATE: Due to the fact that I much rather go sailing then maintain the boats. Were going to change the schedule a bit. From now on saturdays Bd Sundays will be maintenance for the first two hours then sailing lessons. Only those that help with maintenance or support the club in other (agreed upon ways) will get free sailing lessons and everyone else will be advised to give us a $29.95 suggested donation to help us pay for expenses and hopefully someday hire a real shipwrite to maintain the fleet. Also, dont worry about the weather getting cold this next time because we will provide drysuits, wetsuits and/or immersion/survival suits for everyone sailing. You must bring at least one pair of rubber dishwashing gloves or any type pf rubber glove to keep your hands dry. Free ground school for sailing theory will be on Friday, 6pm to 9pm in at the Blackrock atrium in midtown manhattan on the first floor, 57 E 52nd St, New York, NY 10022 If you miss free ground school please study our Handbook: GROUND SCHOOL [hidden] As far as the practical sailing school. You will be required volunteer 2 hours the day of your lessons or help sustain the club in another way. And you wikl be reauired to answer the following questions and sign a waver before we take you out on one of our Hobie 14’s, Hobie 16’s, our Prindle 18 or our Supetcat 19 for your free lesson/s. These questions and much much more will be covered in the free ground school the previous evening. 1.- What are the two most important directions on a sailboat? And why? 2.- What is the sail configuration for upwind? 3.- What is the sail configuration for downwind? 4.- What is a tack? And how do you tack a hobie cat without a jib? (We dont use jib’s in our school because they make tacking too easy.) 5.- What is a jibe? And how to perform one and what is the danger? And what is the difference between a tack and a jibe? 6.- What is the D.I.Y. Speedometer of the boat and how does it work? (Hint: bubbles) And what is the D.I.Y. apparent wind direction instrument of our boat? 7.- What does it mean to be in irons and how do you get out of them on a boat that is difficult to tack? (Beach catamarans without a jib are the hardest boats to tack.) 8.- Be able to draw a diagram of a hobie cat with the following components labled: port, starboard, bow, stern, traveler, main sheet, main blocks, halyard, main sail, outhaul, righting line. The answers to these questions are on my youtube channel chrisoul7 under or this link [hidden] Or you can ask a volunteer to teach you them if you're nice ;-) We will teach you how to be a competent captain on any boat. As the saying goes you can trust a beach catamaran sailor with a yacht but you can't trust yacht sailor with a beach catamaran. Message me if you cant find the youtube cheat sheet video link!!! And bring drinking water, 2 pairs of shoes that will dry fast (because you will have to stand in a foot of water or more) and bring thick rubber fishing gloves preferably lined in fleece and hat and 3 zip lock baggies for your phone. And sunblock!!! If it rains it usually doesnt last too long and we can do ground school or work on one of our project boats umder the highway across the street out of the rain. Volunteers will be invited back for volunteers only sailing on Sunday. Instagram: shipwrecksurvivor [hidden] More Info below.
