7th Annual UCLA Latin American, Iberian and Latinx Film Festival: Women's Voices. WHAT: Double Feature: SLEEPOVER (La invitación, 2016) and TRYOUTS (2013) (two shorts by Susana Casares, Spain) Films in Spanish and English with English subtitles. The films will be followed by Q&A with the directors. From one day to the next the precarious balance finally falls to pieces when her mother, Luisa, is taken into hospital for memory loss. Nerea feels guilty for not having reacted earlier to the first symptoms of her mother's illness. Now she can only watch as Luisa goes back in time into the past. The four-day festival will feature screenings of twelve films (listed below) from Brazil, Chile, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Spain and the United States. The screenings will take place at various venues on the UCLA campus such as the James Bridges Theater and the Charles E. Young Research Library Presentation Room. All screenings will be followed by a Q&A session with the film directors as well as professors from various departments on campus and will also include a light reception. The opening night will include a screening of “Real Women Have Curves” (United States, 2002), followed by a Q&A with the film’s director, Patricia Cardoso, at the James Bridges Theater and the closing night will include a screening of “As boas maneiras” (Brazil 2017), directed by Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra, and will be followed by a Q&A with Juliana Rojas. The 7th Annual Latin American, Latinx, and Iberian Film Festival: Women's Voices is organized and presented by the UCLA Department of Spanish and Portuguese and sponsored by various units on campus.
