After three years of DJing at many private and school parties, in 1988 he decided to go professional, picked a new artist name (DJ T.) and wowed the crowds of several seminal clubs in and around Frankfurt (Music Hall, Plastik, Dorian Gray, XS, The Box and Monza). In the early 90s, he expanded his scope to an increasing number of clubs, events and festivals all over Germany. In 1989, Koch founded Groove magazine, whose publisher he remained until 2004. Now run by a new publishing company, Groove is currently available in all German-speaking countries at a print run of 75,000.All through the 90s, Koch contributed countless of articles to Groove as well as essays to various books on music (a. o. “Localizer 1.0” and “techno”).After a range of residencies at seminal Frankfurt venues like Dorian Gray or The Box, in 1999 Koch and his partners decided to open their own club, Monza, in Frankfurt’s city centre. Until its closure in 2003, Monza played a vital part in the city’s club scene and beyond. Since Monza’s grand re-opening in 2004 and Koch’s subsequent move to Berlin, the DJ has retained a casual link to the club through occasional DJ gigs and the club’s Ibiza events. In mid-2002 Thomas Koch and his friends decided to found Get Physical Music, a Berlin-based label run by Koch and five further successful veterans of the electronic music scene: DJ and production duo Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung (aka M.A.N.D.Y) and the three producers behind Booka Shade have been working together for more than 10 years and, during this time, released projects on R&S (Degeneration), Harthouse (Synesthasia), Touché (Booka Shade) and Tommy Boy (Oakland Stroke), to name but a few.DJ T., whose production debut dates back to a collaboration with Steve Bug on the latter’s Pokerflat label seven years ago, has been a steady contributor to the GPM release schedule for the last 4 years. To date, his discography on GPM boasts nine 12-inches and an album, “Boogie Playground”, including his latest release, GPM ??? (“Ambush/Stalker”). In addition, productions for labels like Naked Music, 20:20 Vision, ArtofDisco and Simple have cemented his reputation as an internationally sought-after remixer. More Info below.
