Pay-What-You-Wish Admission Thursdays at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art Fifth Avenue for New York State residents and NY, NJ, CT students; Free Admission for Members, Patrons and Children (under 12). The Met Fifth Avenue presents over 5,000 years of art spanning all cultures and time periods. Thomas P. Campbell became the ninth director of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in January 2009, following the 31-year tenure of Philippe de Montebello. During the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2016, The Met welcomed 6.7 million visitors from around the world to The Met Fifth Avenue. Through fellowships and professional exchanges, ongoing excavation work, traveling exhibitions, and many other international initiatives, the Museum continues in the 21st century to fulfill its mission and serve the broadest possible audience.
